According to the Ministério do Trabalho e Emprego, the national minimum wage for professional drivers in Brazil is R$1,650 per month starting January 1 2026. Overtime must be paid at 50% above the hourly rate for hours exceeding 8 per day or 44 per week. This applies to all CLT-registered motoristas de caminhão.

The Ministério do Trabalho e Emprego sets the maximum at 44 hours per week for drivers with mandatory 11 consecutive hours of rest between shifts. Drivers must also take a 30-minute break after every 4 hours of continuous driving. Violations incur fines starting at R$1,200 per incident.

Applicants must submit a valid CNH category C or D, CPF, RG, comprovante de residência, and the ASO medical certificate renewed every 2 years. The Ministério do Trabalho e Emprego requires the CTPS to be signed within 48 hours of hiring. Digital submission via gov.br portal is mandatory for CLT contracts.

Bus drivers require CNH category D plus at least 2 years of licensed driving experience as stated by the Ministério do Transporte. Applicants must also complete the 30-hour MOPP course for passenger transport. No educational diploma beyond basic literacy is mandated.
