Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about Security Guard Jobs

Q What is the minimum monthly salary for a security guard in SĂŁo Paulo state starting January 2026?
As per the Ministério do Trabalho e Emprego, the minimum wage for vigilantes in São Paulo is R$1,650 per month as of 1 January 2026, plus 50% overtime for hours beyond 44 per week. Night shifts receive an additional 20% premium on the base rate. This applies to all registered private security contracts under CLT rules.
Q Which documents are required to apply for a vigilante license through the PolĂcia Federal in 2026?
Applicants must submit RG, CPF, proof of 4th grade education, and a clean criminal record certificate issued within 90 days to the PolĂcia Federal. A medical and psychological exam from an approved clinic is also mandatory before the 180-hour training course. The full process takes 45 to 60 days after submission.
Q How many hours per week can a security guard legally work under Brazilian labor law in 2026?
The Ministério do Trabalho e Emprego sets the standard at 44 hours per week for vigilantes, with a maximum of 12 hours per shift followed by 36 hours rest. Annual leave is 30 days after 12 months of service, plus an additional 1/3 salary bonus paid in advance. Overtime above 44 hours must be paid at 50% extra or compensated with time off.
Q What income tax rate applies to a security guard earning R$2,200 per month in Brazil for 2026?
Receita Federal exempts monthly income up to R$2,112 from income tax in 2026, so a R$2,200 salary incurs 7.5% tax only on the amount above R$2,112 after deductions. INSS contribution is 7.5% on the full salary, deducted monthly from the paycheck. Annual tax declaration is required if total income exceeds R$30,000.
