The Ministry of Labour sets the minimum wage for electricians at 450 THB per day in Bangkok and 400 THB per day in other provinces effective 1 January 2026. Overtime pay must be at least 1.5 times the hourly rate after 8 hours. This applies to all licensed electrical work under the Labour Protection Act.

Foreign electricians must obtain a work permit from the Ministry of Labour before starting employment, with processing completed within 7 working days upon submission of a valid passport, employer sponsorship letter, and electrical license. The fee is 3,000 THB for permits valid up to 1 year. Non-compliance results in fines of 10,000 THB or deportation.

Applicants need at minimum a vocational certificate in electrical engineering from an accredited institute plus 2 years of documented experience for Class 2 licensing. Class 1 licensing requires a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and 3 years of experience. All qualifications must be verified by the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare before 2026 applications.

Submit applications via the Ministry of Labour e-Recruitment portal with ID card, electrical license, and health certificate by 31 March 2026 for government-listed vacancies. Required documents include a resume, training certificates, and police clearance issued within 6 months. Processing takes 14 days with interviews scheduled at provincial labour offices.
