The Ministry of Labour sets the minimum wage for welders at 400 THB per day in Bangkok and 370 THB per day in other provinces effective 1 January 2026. Overtime after 8 hours must be paid at 1.5 times the daily rate, equaling 600 THB per hour in Bangkok. Employers must display the official wage notification at the worksite.

Foreign welders require a work permit from the Department of Employment before starting any welding job in Thailand. The 2026 fee is 3,000 THB for permits valid up to 1 year, with renewal required 30 days before expiry. Employers must submit the permit application within 7 days of hiring.

Welders must hold a National Skill Standard Level 2 or 3 certificate issued by the Department of Skill Development. The certificate requires passing both theory and practical tests at an approved training center, with Level 3 valid for 3 years from the issue date in 2026. No certificate means ineligibility for licensed welding positions.

Applicants must submit a valid ID card or passport, the DSD skill certificate, a medical certificate from a government hospital dated within 30 days, and a house registration document. For foreigners, a copy of the non-immigrant visa and work permit approval letter are also required.
