Heavy Driver And Light Drivers (Local Transfer)

As per the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA), the minimum recruitable salary for light vehicle drivers is BHD 250 per month as of January 2026. Employers must commit to this salary level when applying for the work permit through the LMRA portal. Actual salaries often range from BHD 250 to BHD 450 depending on employer and experience.

Foreign drivers require a sponsor employer to apply for a work permit via LMRA portal, costing BHD 10 per month, valid for 2 years as of 2026. Upon approval, a residency visa is issued by NPRA for BHD 4 per month plus BHD 200 issuance fee. The process takes 5-10 working days if documents are complete.

Drivers must be at least 21 years old, hold a valid driving license from MTIT or equivalent convertible license, and have at least 2 years driving experience as of 2026. No formal education is required, but a medical fitness certificate from an approved clinic is mandatory. Heavy vehicle drivers need Category D license.

Employers submit passport copy, photos, medical report, attested experience certificate, and driving license via LMRA e-service portal as of 2026. The applicant undergoes medical screening at Dhaman centre for BHD 20. Approval leads to fingerprinting at NPRA for residency stamping within 7 days.
