Quick answers about Driver Jobs in Canada

Q What is the hourly wage range for transport truck drivers in Canada in 2026?
According to Government of Canada's Job Bank, transport truck drivers (NOC 73300) earn $18.07 per hour at the low end, $26.44 median, and $41.35 at the high end nationally as of 2026. Entry-level drivers start closer to $20.00 per hour after obtaining a Class 1 licence. Overtime is paid at 1.5 times the regular rate after 40 hours per week for federally regulated positions.
Q Do I need a work permit and LMIA for truck driver jobs in Canada as a foreigner?
International applicants require a work permit under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program; employers must obtain a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) first, with high-wage stream processing in 10 business days and low-wage up to 18 weeks as of 2026. Truck driver jobs qualify if the offered wage meets or exceeds the provincial/territorial median hourly wage of $26.44 nationally. Exemptions apply for intra-company transfers but not typically for drivers.
Q What education and experience are needed for truck driver jobs in Canada?
No post-secondary education is required, but a high school diploma is often preferred; most employers seek 6 months to 1 year of directly related experience. A valid Class 1/AZ commercial driver's licence, air brake endorsement (Z), and clean driver's abstract are mandatory. On-the-job training is provided for 1-3 months typically.
Q What documents are required to apply for truck driver jobs in Canada?
Applicants must submit a resume, valid commercial driver's licence (e.g., Class 1/AZ), 3-year driver's abstract, criminal record check, and employment references. For new immigrants, include work permit, SIN, and passport. Applications are submitted online via employer portals or Job Bank, with interviews requiring proof of logbook experience.
