Security guard requirement

As per the Ministry of Labour & Employment notification under the Code on Wages, 2019, the minimum wage for unskilled security guards in Zone I is ₹25,500 per month (basic ₹10,500 + VDA ₹15,000). This applies to establishments under central jurisdiction like airports and PSUs. Overtime is paid at twice the ordinary rate for hours exceeding 48 per week.

Candidates must be Indian citizens aged 18-60 years, not convicted of any imprisonable offence, and must complete 100 hours of training for unarmed guards as per PSARA 2005 rules. No minimum education is mandated centrally, but states require basic literacy. Physical fitness certificate is required.

Required documents include Aadhaar card, PAN card, 10th standard marksheet (if available), two passport photos, bank passbook, and PSARA training certificate. Register online via NCS portal with these scanned copies. Employment exchange issues registration card valid for 3 years.

Under the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020, security guards work maximum 8 hours per day and 48 hours per week with one weekly off. Annual leave is 1 day for every 20 days worked, totaling at least 15 days per year. Women guards get 26 weeks maternity leave.
