Truck driver

As per the Ministry of Labour, the minimum recruitable wage for non-Qatari drivers in the private sector is QAR 1,000 per month under Decree No. 15 of 2017, effective through 2026. Employers must also provide accommodation valued at QAR 300-500 monthly or allowance, and food allowance of QAR 300. Overtime is paid at 125% of hourly rate beyond 48 hours weekly.

Foreign drivers require a job offer from a Qatar-based sponsor who applies for a work entry permit via the Ministry of Labour portal, valid for 6 months. Upon arrival, a medical exam and biometrics lead to a 1-year renewable work residence permit (ID). Visa costs are borne by employer, with QAR 200-300 fees processed online as of 2026.

No formal education is required for light vehicle drivers, but heavy vehicle drivers need at least high school certificate equivalent and 2 years verifiable experience. All must hold a valid home country driving license convertible to Qatari one within 1 week of arrival. Age eligibility is 21-60 years per Labour Law No. 14 of 2004, updated 2026.

Applicants need a scanned passport valid 6 months, attested academic/experience certificates, 6 passport photos, and medical fitness report from approved clinic costing QAR 100. Employer submits unified contract to Ministry of Labour for approval within 7 days, including QAR 2,000-4,000 monthly salary offer. Process completes in 2-4 weeks via MOL online system as of 2026.
