As per the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, the minimum wage for Saudi nationals in the private sector, including drivers, is SAR 4,000 per month under Royal Decree M/46 dated 12/7/1442 AH (May 2021), effective through 2026. Overtime pay is 150% of the basic wage for hours exceeding 8 per day or 48 per week. This wage protection is enforced via the Wage Protection System (WPS).

Foreigners require a work visa sponsored by an HRSD-registered employer, followed by an Iqama residence permit valid for 1-2 years. The employer applies via the Qiwa platform, with processing taking 7-10 working days after document submission. Drivers must convert foreign licenses to Saudi ones within 90 days of arrival.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old, hold a valid Saudi driving license for the vehicle category, and pass a medical fitness test. No formal education is required, but commercial drivers need at least 1 year of relevant experience. Saudi nationals must be registered on the Taqat platform.

Required documents include a valid passport, driving license, medical fitness certificate, employment contract, and 6 passport photos. Saudis submit via Taqat; expatriates via employer on Qiwa for contract approval before Iqama issuance. Processing fee is SAR 200 for work permit activation.
