Class 3 Drivers

The median gross monthly income for light vehicle drivers (motor cars/taxis) in Singapore is SGD 3,100 as of the 2025 Occupational Wages Report released in 2026. Entry-level drivers earn around SGD 2,500 while experienced ones reach SGD 4,000 including allowances. Overtime pay is at least 1.5 times the hourly rate.

Employers pay a monthly levy of SGD 450 for Malaysian vehicle drivers and SGD 1,000 for non-Malaysian vehicle drivers under Work Permits as of 1 January 2026. The levy funds training and promotes local hiring. Work Permits are valid for up to 2 years and renewable.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old, hold a valid Class 3 or 4B driving licence, and pass the Taxi Driver Vocational Licence (TDVL) test costing SGD 35. No formal education is required but a clean driving record for the past 5 years is mandatory. Singapore citizens, PRs, or valid Work Permit holders qualify.

Required documents include NRIC or passport, valid Class 4 driving licence, vocational licence for heavy goods vehicles, medical fitness certificate, and resume with 2 years driving experience. Employers verify via MOM's myMOM Portal for Work Permit applications. Submit originals and copies at interview.
