ELECTRICIAN – TECHNICAL SUPPORT - Urgently needed

The Department of Employment and Labour sets the national minimum wage at R32.20 per hour for all workers including electricians as of 1 March 2026. This amounts to R5,796 per month for a standard 45-hour week. Overtime must be paid at 1.5 times the ordinary rate for hours exceeding 45 per week.

Foreign electricians need a General Work Visa or Critical Skills Visa if listed on the 2026 Critical Skills List, requiring a job offer from a registered employer and SAQA qualification evaluation. The application fee is R1,520, with processing taking 8-20 weeks. Proof of 5 years experience and health insurance is mandatory.

Candidates need N2 Certificate in Electrical Engineering, 24 months practical experience, and a passing trade test at an accredited centre. The QCTO issues the National Certificate: Electrician upon completion. Red Seal endorsement is available for reciprocity with other countries.

Submit certified ID or passport, trade test certificate, N2/N3 qualifications, and proof of practical experience to the nearest DOL office. A competency declaration form and two passport photos are also required. Processing takes 4-6 weeks for issuance of registration number.
