As per the Chief Labour Commissioner notifications, the minimum wage for skilled welders in central sphere Zone I is ₹631 basic daily rate plus Variable Dearness Allowance of ₹15,510 monthly, totaling ₹20,117 per month effective January 2026. Overtime is paid at twice the ordinary rate for hours exceeding 48 per week. This applies to scheduled employments including fabrication workshops.

A 1-year ITI certificate in Welder (Gas & Electric Arc) trade from an NCVT or SCVT approved institute is mandatory for entry-level positions. No prior work experience is needed for fresh ITI passers. Admission to ITI welder course requires passing Class 8th with 40% marks.

Required documents include Aadhaar card, PAN card, 10th standard marksheet, ITI welder certificate, bank account passbook, and passport-size photo. Applications are submitted online with digital upload of scanned copies. Selected apprentices receive ₹9,000 monthly stipend under NAPS for welder trade in 2026.

Welders work maximum 48 hours per week with one paid weekly holiday. Overtime beyond 48 hours pays double the ordinary wage rate up to 75 hours quarterly. Annual leave is 1 day for every 20 days worked, totaling 15 days yearly after 240 days service.
