As per the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, the adult minimum wage in New Zealand is NZ$24.50 per hour from 1 April 2026 for all roles including plumbers. Qualified plumbers receive at least this rate plus overtime at 1.5 times after 40 hours per week. Plumbers must also hold current registration with the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board to work legally.

As per Immigration New Zealand, overseas plumbers need an Accredited Employer Work Visa valid for up to three years if sponsored by a licensed employer. Applicants must show a job offer paying at least NZ$24.50 per hour and hold a recognised plumbing qualification. Applications are lodged online with a fee of NZ$1,120 as of 2026.

As per the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board under MBIE, applicants need a New Zealand Certificate in Plumbing Level 4 plus 8,000 hours of supervised experience. International applicants must have their qualifications assessed for equivalence by 30 June 2026. Registration costs NZ$450 and must be renewed annually.

For visa holders, a copy of the work visa and passport are mandatory. All documents must be uploaded via the employer’s accredited portal by the application deadline.
