About Us

Harvest Home Farmers Market (HHFM) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing access to farm-fresh, locally grown produce in underserved communities throughout New York City. Each season, we operate 14 farmers’ markets across the Bronx, Upper Manhattan, and Brooklyn from June through November. Our mission is to empower communities with the tools, resources, and education needed to support healthier lifestyles.

Position Summary

The Driver is responsible for transporting, delivering, and setting up equipment and supplies required for the daily operation of assigned farmers’ market locations. Drivers play a critical role in ensuring markets are fully equipped and operational each market day.

This position requires reliability, punctuality, and the ability to work independently while maintaining the organization’s standards of professionalism and safety. Drivers are expected to arrive at their assigned markets on time, rain or shine, throughout the entire market season (May–November).

Key Responsibilities
• Operate a cargo van to transport market equipment and supplies to assigned market locations
• Set up and break down the equipment required for market operations
• Follow established weekly schedules and delivery routes to ensure timely market setup
• Assist Site Coordinator in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized market site during setup, operation, and breakdown.
• Use GPS and navigation tools to efficiently travel between locations
• Maintain the cleanliness and proper condition of the assigned vehicle and equipment
• Follow all local, state, and federal driving laws and safety regulations
• Maintain a safe and compliant driving record throughout the season
• Collect and securely transport market reports and materials back to the main office
• Communicate with program staff regarding schedule changes, issues, or delays
• Safely park the van at the designated parking lot at the end of the market shift

Qualifications & Skills
• Valid New York State driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Previous experience driving cargo vans or similar vehicles preferred
• Ability to lift and carry 50–70 pounds and perform physical tasks, including bending, reaching, and prolonged sitting or standing
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
• Professional attitude with strong communication skills
• Comfortable following verbal instructions, written directions, and GPS navigation
• Flexible and able to adapt to changing schedules or operational needs
• Willingness to commit to the full market season (May–November)
• High school diploma or equivalent, or comparable work experience
• Available to start work Thursday, May 7th, 2026.

Schedule

This position operates on a split-shift schedule. Drivers work two separate shifts on the same day to support market setup and breakdown.

Typical Schedule Example:
• Morning Shift: Approximately 6:00 AM – 9:00 AM (market setup and equipment delivery)
• Afternoon Shift: Approximately 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM (market breakdown and equipment pickup)

There is an unpaid break between shifts, and drivers are not required to remain on-site during that time.

Ideal Candidate

This role is well-suited for individuals who have flexible schedules or existing part-time or freelance work and are looking for consistent seasonal hours during the morning and afternoon on market days.

Ideal candidates may include individuals who:
• Already work freelance, gig-based, or flexible jobs
• Have midday availability between split shifts
• Are seeking supplemental seasonal income
• Are comfortable working independently and managing their time between shifts

Applicants must be available for both shifts on assigned market days throughout the market season (May–November).
