Entry-level Grade E security guards earn between R5,459 and R8,000 per month based on the national minimum wage floor and standard industry compliance. Employers must adhere to the R30.33 hourly rate for the first 45 hours weekly. Higher pay applies in urban areas like Gauteng with shift allowances adding R500-R1,000 monthly.

Foreign nationals require a General Work Visa from the Department of Home Affairs as security guard roles are not on the Critical Skills List. Applications cost R1,520 and require a job offer from a PSiRA-registered employer, processing takes 8-10 weeks. Visa valid for up to 5 years with renewals at R1,520.

Applicants must be at least 16 years old, South African citizens or hold valid work permits, have no disqualifying criminal convictions under the PSiRA Act, and complete a 1-week Grade E training course. No minimum education is required beyond basic literacy for patroller roles. Medical fitness certificate is mandatory for registration.
